Side Stepping a Food Coma

We’ve all experienced postprandial somnolence, right?  What’s that you ask?  It is the proverbial “Food Coma” from eating large meals and meals high in carbs and fats. We literally have a physical response to what we’ve eaten.  In turn, when we consume food that is well balanced and filling but not over-filling, our body responds with the energy and clarity necessary to perform activities throughout day. An easy way to invite clarity and vitality and sidestep lethargy and brain fog, is to follow “The Plate.”

As we eat a balance of these key food options, they process better and help keep our various “levels” level. Remember, to downsize the portions for snacks BUT be sure to eat “The Plate” with your snacks too.  Your mind and body will thank you! Check out www.ChooseMyPlate.gov for creative and yummy meal and snack ideas.
